RELATIONSHIP OF FAMILY MEMBERS IN THE CEMETERY

ENTRY GATE

The following RELATIONSHIP document developed and written by Nancy (Riggs) Sloan explains the assignment of unique numbers to each Riggs Family member, living or deceased, along with a description of each family member buried in the Riggs Family Cemetery. This numbering system is used throughout this website and begins with the number "4" reflecting the birth order of Brannick Riggs, the fourth child of Thomas and Rhoda Riggs who are buried in Texas.  A separate number/letter has been assigned to each of the headstones in the Riggs Family Cemetery and is included in the RELATIONSHIP document below.

The family relationship numbers in the document are located above the person's name and the headstone number/letter is located below the birth / death date.

Dear Family,

Several times the Elsie Hogan Library in Willcox has contacted me requesting information about people buried in the Riggs Family Cemetery.  Inquiries have also come from other sources such as the City of Willcox, Rex Allen Museum and the Chiricahua Regional Museum and Research Center. Some family members are not certain about the relationships of those buried in the family cemetery.  I am compiling this booklet so that it can be available to those looking for information on the Riggs Family Cemetery when I, or other cousins, are no longer available to answer questions.  In addition, hopefully, this booklet will help the younger generations of the Riggs family understand their connections to family members buried in this cemetery.

The names and dates appear as they are on the headstones and markers in the cemetery.  The additional family relationship information comes from family records in possession of the writer.

If there are any discrepancies in the following information, please CONTACT me.  I can then make changes so correct information will be available to those interested in this family cemetery.

This has been a work of love.

Sincerely,

Nancy Ruth Riggs Sloan

EXPALNATION OF THE FAMILY MEMBER NUMBERING SYSTEM

The first number is the position of each child in the family of Thomas and Rhoda Riggs, parents of Brannick Riggs who was their fourth child.

The second number is the position of each child in the family of Brannick and Mary Elizabeth Riggs.  For example:
        4-5         Brannick Benjamin Riggs
He is the 5th child of Brannick and Mary Elizabeth.

The third number is the position of a child in that child’s family.
        4-5-4        Thomas Riggs
He is the 4th child of Brannick Benjamin Riggs, the grandchild of Brannick and Mary Elizabeth Riggs.

The fourth number is the position of a child in that child’s family.
        4-5-4-2        Nancy Ruth Riggs Sloan
She is the second child of Thomas Riggs, the great grandchild of Brannick and Mary Elizabeth.

The fifth number is the position of a child in that child’s family.
        4-5-4-2-4    Troy Gordon Sloan
He is the 4th child ofNancy Ruth Riggs Sloan, the great, great grandchild of Brannick and Mary Elizabeth.

The sixth number is the position of a child in that child’s family.
        4-5-4-2-4-5    Charlard Andre` Sloan
He is the 5th child of Troy Gordon Sloan, the great, great, great grandchild of Brannick and Mary Elizabeth.

The spouse of each descendant is listed under the descendant's name with an explanation and family member number the same as their spouse with a letter after the number, "a" indicating descendant's first spouse, "b" the second, etc.

I hope this will help identify the place of each individual in the family of Brannick and Mary Elizabeth Riggs.

The names are not in this booklet the way they are located in the cemetery.  They are under the name of their direct ancestor.
